Dakwa

A traditionally Sudanese peanut satay

Yes

A spicy, tart, rich and very delicious dip, dakwa is traditionally an accompaniment to meat or chicken

Ingredients

  • ½ small white onion

  • 1 small lemon, squeezed

  • 100g crunchy peanut butter

  • 75ml hot water

  • ¾ teaspoon ground cumin

  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder (or more to taste)

  • ½ teaspoon  salt

  • Parsley for garnish

Preparation

Step One

Finely dice the onion, the smaller the better


Step Two

Pour the lemon juice over the onion and set aside to soak for 10-15 minutes


Step Three

Beat the peanut butter and water together until fully combined


Step Four

Add the diced onions with the lemon juice, cumin, salt and chilli and combine well


Step Five

Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with parsley

Notes

Unsweetened peanut butters work best with this recipe, but using any you have at home will still be delicious
